Pioneer of senescence research and the senolytic approach to aging
Judith Campisi was a pioneering researcher in cellular senescence at the Buck Institute and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Her work revealed the dual nature of senescent cells: they prevent cancer in the short term but drive aging and disease when they accumulate. She helped establish the field of senolytics, drugs that selectively eliminate senescent cells to restore tissue function.
