Laura Niedernhofer, MD, PhD

Leading researcher in DNA damage repair and senolytic drug development

Laura Niedernhofer is a physician-scientist at the University of Minnesota who studies how DNA damage drives aging and age-related diseases. Her research on progeroid (accelerated aging) syndromes has revealed critical insights into normal aging processes. She was instrumental in developing and testing senolytics—drugs that selectively eliminate senescent cells—and demonstrated their ability to extend healthspan in animal models. Her translational work is bringing senolytic therapies closer to clinical application.
